Labeling Standards for Artwork

To ensure clarity, professionalism, and consistency, The Artists Collective | Spartanburg requires all artists to adhere to the following labeling standards when submitting or displaying artwork. These guidelines are intended to help artists effectively communicate essential details about their work to the audience and maintain a cohesive presentation throughout the Collective.

By adhering to these labeling standards, artists contribute to a professional and cohesive exhibition experience while effectively communicating the value and story of their work to the audience.


Artwork Information

  • Each piece must be accompanied by a label that includes, in order, the following details:
    • Artist’s Name: Full name of the artist as they wish to be credited.
    • Title of the Work: The title should reflect the artist’s intended meaning without using quotation marks.
    • Year of Completion ( Optional ): Year the artwork was finished. (Arial 12pt Regular)
    • Medium: Clearly specify the materials and techniques used (e.g., oil on canvas, mixed media, digital print).
    • Price: Include the price of the artwork if it is for sale, preceded directly by a $ sign (e.g., $500). If not for sale, clearly label the piece as “Not for Sale” (NFS).

Special Annotations

  • If applicable, artists must disclose any special details such as:
    • Edition number for prints (e.g., 2/50).
    • Collaborative works with credit to all contributors.
    • Use of A.I. generated elements or mixed media components.

Label Format

  • Labels must be:
    • Printed on plain white 2” x 3 1/2” Avery Business Card.
    • Double-spaced using the font Arial 16pt Regular, with black font color.
    • Title should be italicized.
    • Center aligned.
    • Securely and discreetly affixed to the wall or pedestal, positioned just below the bottom-right corner of the artwork.
      • Using only white removable putty ( TAC ) placed in the top two corners.
  • Custom Labels for Exhibitions
    • Must be designed to avoid overshadowing or detracting from the artwork itself.
