Patrick A. DeCrane

Painting, Drawing

I have been painting and drawling most of my life. Art helps me to both escape and cope with life. While I enjoy painting with acrylics and pastels, I find watercolors the most enjoyable.

I generally use intense colors. I also find great satisfaction in drawing with pencil and charcoal. My subject matter generally includes flowers, trees and still life.

While not necessarily following their style, I find Wolf Kahn, Edward Hopper and Georgia O’Keeffe inspiring.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Patrick began his formal art education in high school. During his military career, Patrick was afforded an opportunity to travel and studied art at numerous colleges.

After retiring from the U.S. Army he worked 11 years for the Military Officers Association. Prepared for a new adventure he and his life partner, Michael Thomas, opened, owned and operated a bed and breakfast for 10 years. Ready to retire after three careers, Patrick continued to expand his art skills by taking classes in pastels and most recently water colors. Along with his artwork Patrick, enjoys spending time with his two children and three grandchildren and partner, Michael.

Patrick and Michael now reside in Greer, SC with their spoiled west highland terrier, Mysie. He also enjoys cooking and reading.
