Spartanburg artist Jason Huffman will show his most recent oil paintings as well as some of his previous works in his upcoming exhibition “Go Figure: Recent Figure Works” April 2 through 27 in Gallery III of the Artists Collective | Spartanburg.

The exhibit is free and open to the public and will include an artists’ reception on Thursday, April 18, as part of ArtWalk Spartanburg.

“This exhibit is an introduction of my artwork to the Spartanburg area,” says the self-taught artist originally from Arizona who says he was drawn to move to the Carolinas where his ancestors first settled. “I’m inspired to share my work with the Upstate area.”

Works in the exhibit will include a range of wildlife, portraits, figures and realism, most of them oil on canvas with some pencil sketches on canvas. “People describe my work as very realistic, with a sense of connection to each piece,” he says.

Huffman cannot remember a time when he wasn’t an artist. “From an early age, as far back as I can remember, I’ve drawn and painted. In school, when the other kids were running and playing, I would find something, anything, to draw on. Art has been a lifelong obsession. It is not an option – I have to create, whether it is a sketch, painting or sculpture. It is something I have always done. I have tried many different mediums, including pencil, oil, watercolor, bronze, glass and jewelry. At this time in my life, I seem to be focused on painting. Being a self-taught artist, my education has been through trial and error.”

He adds, “I have done graphic design, painted murals for a museum, had my own gallery and studio and been a jeweler for several years. Being a self-employed artist I’ve had sporadic spans of artwork created in between jobs of sustenance.”

Having been represented in several galleries in Arizona, Huffman says he was fortunate to have the support of local collectors. Now in Spartanburg, “The most important thing is for me to be a part of the artistic community.” He has been a member of the Artists Collective | Spartanburg since 2022.

“The Artists Collective is truly a group of the nicest people who are determined to help promote any artist’s ambition,” he says. “ACS has a beautiful building to showcase the area’s local and regional artists.”

The 25 pieces in the exhibition will be available for purchase, with prices ranging from $200 to $2,000. To learn more about Jason Huffman and his art, go to www.jasonhuffmanart.com.
