We are all suffering in one way or another from the Covid 19 virus. Artists Collective | Spartanburg is no different. Because you have shown an interest in us by donating, purchasing art by our artists, visiting our shops and galleries, liking us on Facebook, and subscribing to our newsletter, we wanted to give you an update and ask for your continued support.
Artists Collective | Spartanburg Physical Location Will Open to the Public in September
Social distancing and masks will be required. For the foreseeable future we will not be participating in Art Walk but our galleries will be open with new art during regular business hours. Tues. - Sat. 10 - 4.
Social Media During the Pandemic
Prior to the pandemic we established a Facebook and Instagram presence that has become very popular. Many times posts are made that capture the attention of viewers from around the world. They are not always about Artists Collective but they are about things that seem to be of interest to artists and art lovers. We have found this to be a good way to share art with people near and far. Virtual Art education.
One of our members has developed a "virtual store" for our artists. It is located on our webpage. This has helped some of our members continue to sell their work even while our shops and galleries are closed. Check it out. You can have work shipped or make arrangements to pick it up.
We have struggled with whether to cancel this exhibit or not. We know that artists need this type of exhibit more than ever so we are continuing as planned. The dates are Sept. 15 - Oct. 17. There will not be an awards reception this year, but we will make the awards announcements online at a given time. The exhibit can be viewed during normal business hours. Last year this was a very successful event and prizes totaled $4500. We plan the same this year.
Covid Exhibit 2020 - Artists of Spartanburg
The artist community is a vital part of Spartanburg and we have all been feeling the pain and anxiety of coping with this disease. Many have been coping with it by making art. In January 2021, we are calling all artists of the community to bring a work they made during this time and exhibit it in our largest gallery - Solomon Gallery. It will run through the months of January and February so that the community will have an opportunity to see this work created by local artists during the pandemic of 2020. We look forward to hosting this historic event.
Like other arts organizations, we are facing financial loss. We have had to cancel 19 exhibits and our fund raiser "Sparkle and Shine." Opportunities for grants are limited or reduced due to limited income by the granting organizations. We are trying hard to come up with ways to continue our support of local artists even with limited funds.
We believe in what we do and know that we have made a big impact on this community, and regionally. If you can, please donate whatever you can by going to: artistscollectivespartanburg.org/donate.
