処理: Processing

Spartanburg artist Lady Pluuto will exhibit her latest watercolors in a new exhibition, “処理: Processing,” Dec. 2 through 27 in Gallery III of the Artists Collective | Spartanburg.

An artist’s reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, as part of Spartanburg ArtWalk. The reception and exhibition viewing are free and open to the public.

“These works are watercolor paintings of dreamscapes in muted tones,” Lady Pluuto says. “They represent my newfound love of consistency versus curiosity. I know nothing about watercolor, but I know I will if I am consistently practicing with an open mind. I know I will if I remain curious with the expression of my creativity. I have long at last learned to love the process.

“You don’t have to always have things figured out,” she adds. “The pieces I created are all for the sake of consistency. Creation doesn’t require an end goal. Creation just is. You’ll find that life will bring you to amazing places, even when you don’t know where the steps are leading you. All it takes is consistency.”

She says, “I haven’t had much time in the past year to process all of the inner changes I’ve experienced. This show represents a moment of steady pause. A journey through steady stillness. My inner child leads me to a re-discovery of myself.”

Through her love of painting, Lady Pluuto says she uses her creative process to explore her subconscious mind using different media – acrylic, digital, oil, watercolor, gouache, and murals. She expresses herself through spiritual symbolism, dreamlike themes and the color pink.

Through her art, she says she “hopes to inspire others to reflect on the creation of their authentic selves.”

A self-taught artist based in Spartanburg, Lady Pluuto says her style of artwork is inspired by Japanese anime art styles and kawaii culture. An artist all her life, she chose to pursue her creative career in 2019.

A native of Georgia, she spent most of her childhood in Connecticut, but eventually her family settled in South Carolina.

In the past two years, she has exhibited six times in Spartanburg, six times in Japan and once in Miami. She has attended two artist residencies in Japan on Gampi paper-making and Japanese lacquerware.

A member of the Artists Collective | Spartanburg since 2019, Lady Pluuto says joining “has activated a lot of inner-growth, and I am looking forward to seeing where else that growth will take me.
