Miriam Tucker Jones

Painting

I have been drawing since I could hold a crayon or a pencil. My Mom took me to my first oil painting classes when I was sixteen years old. The smell of the oil paint and turpentine were intoxicating. I do not do much oil now. I work mainly in acrylic and watercolor.

I find commissions stressful, but I do have six commission watercolors of “Rumpole of the Bailey” hanging in offices of lawyers and a judge. I am pretty much self- taught. My daughter, Tipton and I were members of West Main Artist Co-op eleven years ago and we are now members again. We did an exhibit there together. Also, my husband, Barry, daughter, Tipton and I did a family art exhibit at Carri Bass Photography and Art Studio in Tryon, North Carolina. The watercolor in my bio is of a pharmacy in Clermont-Ferrand, France. I went with my husband, compliments of Michelin Tire. During that time, we went to Paris, France to visit the Louvre Museum and the Musee d’Orsay, a dream come true.
