The members of the Artists Collective | Spartanburg represent a diverse group in many ways, not the least of which is their artistic interpretations of what they see and experience in the world. Now, 15 of these artists are showing their diversity in a joint show, “Collective’s View Exhibit,” Dec. 3 through 28 in Gallery II of the Collective.
An artist’s reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, as part of Spartanburg ArtWalk. The reception and exhibition viewing are free and open to the public. The 15 pieces in the show will be offered for purchase with prices starting at $50.
“This exhibition is made up from artists’ interpretations of a honey ceramic pot made by one of our artists, Chuck Bishop,” says Judy Martin, one of the participating artists. “The other artists needed to make their own piece of art with this honey pot being the main focus. This was an idea of a few wanting to get more of our members involved in a group project.
“The message is how people see the same thing so differently and how they make it in their own medium,” Martin adds, noting that the artists involved in the project have not exhibited together before.”
“All those participating are members of the Collective. Some have been members for a short time and others maybe 10 years,” she says. “Our members enjoy the privilege of being able to display in a gallery at the Collective. This is one of the benefits of being a member – having the chance to have a joint show as well as a solo show.”
Martin adds, “The Artists Collective is one of the best art places in Spartanburg County. There is diversity within people as well as their art. Always room to grow as an artist is a great benefit.”
