A group of 18 Upstate artists will light up a darkened Gallery III at the Artists Collective | Spartanburg March 5 through 30 with their exhibition “Glow Show: Creating with Light.” An artists’ reception will be held Thursday, March 21, as part of ArtWalk Spartanburg.

This is the consecutive second year for the “Glow Show,” says participating artist and organizer Sally Y. Weber. “I asked whether people wanted to make a ‘glowing’ contribution for the show, and they did. During the exhibit a darkened room lit only by blacklight with glowing paintings on the wall and other luminous sculpture.”

In addition to Weber, participating in the exhibition are Teda Barrows, Pat Cato, Craig Denesha. Marcy Fedalei, Logan “Divinity” Foster, Dan Hazard, Thomas Koenig, Rosemary McLeod, Shannon Patrick, Lady Pluuto, Gale Roberts, Sandra Schindlbeck, Carol Story, Brandi Tucker, Nancy Williamson, Skye Winter and Patty Wright.

The other artists want to show that “there are many different ways of art making,” Weber adds. “Visitors will see a room full of glowing dreams. We want wonder and inspiration to glow up their own world.”

There will be curtains on the door of the gallery, and flashlights will be provided for viewers to use for an interactive experience. Chairs also will be provided for visitors to “sit and enjoy,” Weber says.

The exhibit was inspired by “the glow-iest glow paint” Weber received from her son, Kit Weber, three years ago. She has been “glowing up” everything in her house since, she says.

The exhibit “only appears once a year to bring the wonder of glow to the world,” she says.

All of the participating artists are members of the Artists Collective | Spartanburg.

The 25+ works in the exhibit will be available for purchase, with prices ranging from $15 to $1,000. Admission to the exhibition is free.
