The Artists Collective | Spartanburg (ACS) is hiring an Operations Manager.  This is a full time, salaried position with an expected start date in January 2022.  The Operations Manager will report to the Chair of the Management Board and will work closely with other committee chairs to ensure the smooth running of the ACS. 

The successful candidate must be a flexible and adaptable self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision.  The salary range is $35,000-$40,000 per year including two weeks paid vacation.

Duties:

The Operations Manager will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the ACS, including 

  • Building management
    • Be on-site when the building is open to the public
    • Being responsive to issues as they occur and acting as “first responder” as issues arise in building.  
    • Point person to contact committee chairs (facilities, retail, workshops, etc.) 
    • With Facilities Committee, coordinate with outside contractors, tradesmen (janitorial, landscaping)
    • Schedule space (workshops, performances)
    • Answering the telephone and checking voicemail
  • Work closely with the Fundraising Committee in researching and writing grant proposals and pursuing additional sources of funding
  • Retail administration
    • Conduct retail training
    • Contact Retail Chair regarding missed shifts
  • Bookkeeping and maintaining financial records, visitor count, etc.
  • Work with Membership Chair to coordinate new member orientation and paperwork
  • Facilitate and coordinate guest artist contracts
  • Explain the ACS to potential members
  • Prepare monthly report to Management Board and attend monthly Management Board meetings
  • Attend quarterly Governing Board meetings

The ACS is a 50-member artist collective with 30 artist’s studios and retail, exhibition, and performance space.  It is open to the public Tuesdays-Saturdays 10-4 and which participates in Spartanburg’s monthly Artwalk, 5-9 PM on the third Thursday of every month.

The Operations Manager is not responsible for selecting or displaying artwork.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

Ability to be quick-witted, responsive, flexible, and pre-emptive

Appreciation for the arts

4-year college degree 

2-5 years related experience: nonprofit, retail, gallery, fundraising, grant writing

Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, and Google Suite
